Victor Osimhen set to return for Napoli’s title push against Verona

Victor Osimhen will return to competitive action for Napoli when the Serie A leaders welcome Hellas Verona to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Saturday.

Napoli bounced back from their 4-0 league defeat to AC Milan with a 2-1 victory away at Lecce last week.

Osimhen has been out of action for Napoli since returning from the international break, having picked up a muscle injury during Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying doubleheader against Guinea-Bissau in March.

He has missed a total of three games for the title-chasing Napoli side, including a 1-0 loss to Milan in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie at San Siro.

After the Champions League defeat, Napoli manager Luciano Spaletti had revealed that he was 100 per cent certain that Osimhen will be available for the second leg next Tuesday but will have the opportunity to warm up and shake off the rust against Verona.

“Victor Osimhen will be in the squad for tomorrow’s game. Whoever ends up playing, they’ll have to approach it knowing that they’re playing in one of the biggest games of the season,” Spaletti said.

The 24-year-old, who was in blistering form for Napoli before his injury, will be hoping to continue where he left off with the club.
