Turkish Super Lig title contenders Fenerbahçe S.K. are preparing to appeal to the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) in a bid to prevent Victor Osimhen from featuring in their crucial league clash against Galatasaray S.K. on Sunday, April 26 at RAMS Park.

The move centres around concerns over the striker’s protective hand gear. Osimhen recently returned from a forearm injury and was in action during Galatasaray’s 2-0 defeat to Gençlerbirliği in a Turkish Cup quarter-final, where he was seen wearing a protective cast on his right hand.

Fenerbahçe are reportedly set to submit a formal complaint to the TFF, arguing that the hard protective equipment – commonly referred to as a POP cast—could pose a safety risk to other players on the pitch. The club is expected to request that the Nigerian international be barred from participating in the high-stakes encounter.

According to Esra Köse of HT Spor, Fenerbahçe believe they have a strong case, with their medical team currently preparing a report aligned with International Football Association Board (IFAB) regulations on approved protective materials.

“There is a belief that the hard protective equipment Victor Osimhen uses in matches poses a risk to opposing players,” Köse said.

“Fenerbahçe is preparing to officially apply to the TFF to bring this issue to their attention. The club’s medical team is preparing a report on materials that can be used according to IFAB rules.”

Any ruling by the TFF that goes against Galatasaray concerning the Victor Osimhen Fenerbahce ban request is expected to be strongly contested by the club.

Despite spending a significant part of the season sidelined through injury, Osimhen has still delivered an impressive return – scoring 19 goals and providing seven assists in 39 appearances across all competitions. His presence remains crucial as Galatasaray push to secure back-to-back Turkish Super Lig titles.
