…Akor Adams goal earns Venezia first Serie A win
Venezia manager David Nicola has praised Super Eagles striker Akor Adams following his impressive performance in their 1-0 victory over Napoli, which secured the club’s first win of the 2026/27 season after seven games.
Nicola, an experienced Serie A coach, took charge of Venezia following the dismissal of Giovanni Stroppa after the club’s poor start to the campaign and made an immediate impact with a crucial victory over Napoli.
Adams broke the deadlock in the 49th minute, capitalising on an error by Napoli defender Benoit Badiashile before beating him to the ball and firing a powerful shot into the back of the net. His decisive finish proved crucial in handing Venezia their first three points of the season.

The goal was Adams’ second of the campaign. However, despite the victory, Venezia remain rooted near the bottom of the table after losing their previous six games.
Napoli had a golden opportunity to draw level in the 68th minute, but Kevin De Bruyne’s effort was denied by Venezia goalkeeper Filip Stankovic. The defeat marked Napoli’s third loss of the season.
Speaking after the game, Nicola expressed his delight with the result and praised Adams’ contribution, while acknowledging that the Nigerian striker still has considerable room for improvement.
Although the Venezia boss admitted he was not keen on singling out individual players, he highlighted Adams’ commitment, important qualities and potential to develop further.
“I don’t like to talk about individuals. Adams puts his heart and soul into it, he has some very important qualities, he helps the team. Akor has incredible room for improvement,” Nicola said.
Venezia will hope to build on the momentum of the victory when they travel to face struggling Genoa next Sunday.
