Victor Osimhen has been ruled out of Napoli’s UEFA Champions League clash against Ajax Amsterdam on Tuesday at the Johan Cruijff ArenA as he’s yet to fully recover from the hamstring injury he suffered against Liverpool on September 7.
The Italian side released the list of players to feature in the Champions League tie with a list of forwards such as Matteo Politano, Giacomo Raspadori, Giovanni Simione, Hirving Lozano and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
The 23-year-old was rushed back from injury to face Liverpool in their 4-1 win at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium but the decision backfired as he was replaced in the 41st minute suffering an hamstring injury which has kept him out of action for over three weeks.
Although the Nigerian has returned to training, he’s yet to feature in group training with other members of the team. According to Napoli’s training report on Monday, Osimhen trained alone just as he did in the past week.
“Those who played in the 3-1 victory did some recovery work in the gym, while the remainder of the squad warmed up before doing some work on strength, possession and tactics out on the field. The session was rounded off with a training game on a reduced-size pitch.
“Victor Osimhen trained separately in the gym.”
Osimhen will be hoping to feature in the second leg a week later in Naples.
The Super Eagles striker had begun his 2022/23 campaign on the high, having found the back of the net twice in six games across all competitions while providing one assist.
Napoli are currently top the Italian Serie A table along with Atalanta with 20 points from eight games.
