Turkey-based Nigerian forward, Babajide David Akintola, has confirmed he is safe and healthy in the aftermath of a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck cities in Turkey and Syria leaving over 9,638 dead in both countries, Boldsportsng.com reports.
Akintola who plays for Turkish Super Lig side Adana Demirspor and a teammate of Super Eagles forward Henry Onyekuru confirmed the news to Boldsportsng.com’s correspondent via Instagram.
There had been fears over the safety of Nigerian players in Turkey and Syria after Monday morning earthquake which has led to loss of lives and several others displaced.
Adana, the city that houses Adana Demirspor was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake killing thousands and displacing more, however, Akintola says he is safe.
“I am fine and safe,” Akintola said when asked about his safety after the earthquake and hundreds of aftershocks.
Matches in the Turkish top tier league and those below have been suspended until further notice.
