Tima Godbless secured her automatic qualification spot in the women’s 200m event for the Paris 2024 Olympics after running 22.56s (+1.2) at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene on Thursday night (Friday morning Nigerian time).
The LSU athlete placed third in her heat to qualify for the final of the NCAA Championships on Friday (Saturday in Nigeria).
Godbless’ time was a personal best and also met the automatic Olympic qualifying standard of 22.57s for the women’s 200m.
Earlier last month, Godbless had already qualified for the women’s 100m event at the Paris 2024 Olympics, becoming the first double automatic qualifier for Paris Olympics from Nigeria..
A total of 13 Nigerian athletes have now automatically qualified for various individual track and field events at the 2024 Olympics. They are:
1. Tobi Amusan (women’s 100mH)
2. Ruth Usoro (women’s long jump)
3. Udodi Onwuzurike (men’s 200m)
4. Edose Ibadin (men’s 800m)
5. Ezekiel Nathaniel (men’s 400mH)
6. Chukwuebuka Enekwechi (men’s shot put)
7. Favour Ashe (men’s 100m)
8. Favour Ofili (women’s 200m)
9. Ella Onojuvwevwo (women’s 400m)
10. Rosemary Chukwuma (women’s 100m)
11. Godson Brume (men’s 100m)
12. Tima Godbless (women’s 100m, 200m)
13. Samuel Ogazi (men’s 400m)
In addition to the individual qualifications, Nigeria has also secured spots in the men’s 4x100m and 4x400m, women’s 4x100m, and mixed 4x400m relay events at the Paris Olympics.
The 2024 Olympic Games will be held in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11, 2024, with the track and field events scheduled to take place from August 1 to 11.
