Nigeria wins CAA Region II Senior Athletics Championship in Ghana

Nigeria emerged victorious at the recently concluded CAA Region II Senior Athletics Championship held in Ghana, amassing a total of 18 medals, comprising 13 gold, four silver, and one bronze medals

Ghana, the host nation, finished second with eight gold, nine silver, and six bronze medals, while Burkina Faso secured third place with five gold, six silver, and four bronze medals.

In the women’s 100m final, Justina Eyakpobeyan claimed gold with a time of 11.52s, while Olayinka Olajide took silver in 11.58s, both running against a strong headwind of -3.4m/s.

Emmanuel Ojeli won the men’s 400m title, clocking a season-best time of 45.84s, marking his fifth sub-46-second performance.

Esther Elo Joseph and Patience Okon-George dominated the women’s 400m final, finishing first and second with times of 51.79s and 52.10s, respectively.

Faith Osamuyi secured gold in the women’s 100m hurdles final with a time of 13.66s.

In the women’s 200m event, Olayinka Olajide and Precious Nzeakor set personal bests in their heats, clocking 23.16 seconds and 23.21 seconds, respectively. They went on to win silver and bronze medals in the final with times of 23.30s and 23.33s, despite facing a headwind of -3.6m/s.

In field events, Samuel Kure won gold in the men’s javelin throw with a mark of 70.25m, while Victoria Kparika claimed gold in the women’s javelin throw with a distance of 48.54m.

Prestina Ochonogor and Emmanuel Njoku secured gold medals in the women’s and men’s long jump events, with leaps of 6.32m and 7.72m, respectively.
