Gift Orban has expressed his thoughts after already-relegated Hellas Verona ended their Serie A campaign with a 2-0 loss to AS Roma on Sunday.

The Nigerian forward recorded seven goals and two assists in 28 league games. However, his efforts were not enough to save the club, who will play in Serie B for the first time since the 2018/19 campaign.

Following their home defeat to Roma, Gift Orban took to his official Instagram handle, stating his disappointment with how the season went.

“This club deserves better, but unfortunately we’re not up to the task, it’s sad,” he wrote.

Despite being Verona’s highest goal scorer this season, Gift Orban did not feature in the team’s final five matches. His exclusion is believed to be linked to a physical altercation the player had with a supporter outside the club’s stadium.

The clash occurred immediately after Verona’s 1-0 home defeat to AC Milan, a result that extended the club’s losing streak to five matches.

Verona’s management later reportedly decided not to make Orban’s loan move permanent. The 23-year-old joined the Italian side on loan from Hoffenheim at the start of the season, but he is now expected to return to the German club.

Prior to his loan move, Gift Orban scored four goals in 13 Bundesliga appearances. It remains to be seen if his Serie A performances will convince Hoffenheim to reintegrate him into the squad for the 2026/27 campaign.
