Taiwo Awoniyi scores again as Nottingham Forest Pip Sheffield 2-1

Taiwo Awoniyi was on target for the second consecutive Premier League game as Nottingham Forest pipped Sheffield United 2-1 at the City Ground in a highly competitive encounter.

The Nigeria international set the tone for the encounter finding the back of the net in the third minute after heading home Serge Aurier’s perfect cross. Sheffield’s Gustavo Hamer scored the equalizer in the 48th minute, beating Forest’s keeper Matt Turner from just after the box.

Substitute Chris Wood grabbed the winner in the 89th minute, earning Forest their first win of the season. Awoniyi’s goal was his sixth consecutive Premier League goal for the club counting from the last four games of the 2022/23 season.

According to OptaJoe, “Taiwo Awoniyi’s run of scoring in six consecutive Premier League appearances is now the longest of any Nigerian player and is surpassed by only two African players in the competition’s history – Mohamed Salah and Emmanuel Adebayor (seven-game runs).

The Super Eagles striker was on for 84 minutes before making way for Christian Wood who scored the winner five minutes after coming on.
