Italian giants AC Milan are close to finalising a €10 million deal, including add-ons and a 10% sell-on clause, with Swiss side Young Boys for Super Eagles–eligible defender Zachary Athekame, Bold Sports reports.
According to French outlet L’Équipe, the transfer for the 20-year-old is nearly complete and could be accelerated today, with the Swiss U-21 international expected to undergo his medical this week before an official announcement.
Athekame broke into Young Boys’ first team during the 2022/23 season, making 14 league appearances, and has continued to develop since then. In the 2023/24 campaign, he featured 37 times, scored twice, and established himself as the club’s first-choice right-back.

Last season, he made 43 appearances across all competitions, netting once and providing three assists.
Milan’s initial €7m bid for the defender was rejected, with both clubs later agreeing on €9m. However, Young Boys increased the price by an additional €1 million amid growing interest from other European sides.
Athekame has earned 10 caps for Switzerland’s U-21 team but is yet to feature for the senior national side. Born in Switzerland to a Nigerian father and a Swiss mother, he remains eligible to represent Nigeria.
