Fulham manager Marco Silva has admitted that Tottenham took advantage of Calvin Bassey’s weaknesses in their 2-0 Premier League victory on Monday night.
The defeat saw Spurs go top of the table, thanks to goals from Son Heung-min and James Maddison. Calvin Bassey was at fault for both goals, giving the ball away cheaply in both halves.

Bassey was playing out of position at right center-back, and he struggled to cope with the pressure from Tottenham’s attackers. Silva conceded that Bassey’s mistakes were costly and that Fulham should have done better against a good team.
“We were punished by the mistakes that we made,” Silva said after the game. “We knew that Tottenham are in a very good moment, and we didn’t want to give them the space behind to score.
“Tottenham pressed really strong on Calvin, knowing that we were playing with a left-footed center-back on the right. We conceded a similar goal at the beginning of the second half. We were punished for the same type of goal.”
Silva will be hoping that Bassey can learn from his mistakes and improve his performance in the future.
