Sporting Lagos returned to winning ways and into the top half of the Nigeria Premier Football League table with a 2-1 win over Niger Tornadoes at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos thanks to first-half goals from Jonathan Aluku and Junior Lokosa.
Aluku opened the scoring in the 27th minute while veteran Junior Lokosa scored his first competitive goal for the club on the stroke of halftime. While Sporting Lagos cruised, Tornadoes pulled one back in the 67th minute through Yahuza Bala.
Yahuza Bala in the 74th minute thought he had brought his side level but his goal was ruled out for offside by the center referee. The Lagos-based club held on for their second win.
The result sees Sporting Lagos bounce back from their 2-1 southwest derby to Remo Stars last week in Ikenne. Thanks to the victory, Sporting Lagos have moved up to 7th on the NPFL log after five games and two points adrift table toppers Enugu Rangers.
