Nigeria Premier Football League club Rivers United FC has appointed former Super Eagles coach Finidi George as their new head coach, ending days of speculation.
The announcement was made official on Wednesday after the Port Harcourt native signed a contract.
“Rivers United Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Finidi George as our new Technical Manager,” the club said in a statement.
Finidi brings a wealth of experience to the role, having won the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria in 1994, the UEFA Champions League with Ajax in 1995, and most recently, the Nigeria Premier Football League title with Enyimba International FC in 2023.
“I am honored to have this opportunity, and I thank the Sports Commissioner, the General Manager, and the supporters for their confidence in me,” Finidi said. “I am committed to working hard and making the team win.”
Rivers United General Manager Dr. Okey Kpalukwu expressed his delight at securing Finidi’s services. “We are delighted to have Finidi George join our team,” he said. “His appointment marks a new chapter in our club’s history, and we are committed to working together to achieve success.”
