Nigeria’s Super Eagles were drawn into Group D for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Morocco from December 21st, 2025, to January 18th, 2026.
The draw took place at the SuperSport studio in Johannesburg, South Africa, with CAF officials and former Moroccan and Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh in attendance.
Interestingly, the Super Eagles will face a familiar foe in Gernot Rohr, who now manages Benin’s national team, nicknamed the Squirrels. This is not their only reunion, as they were also paired with Rwanda in both the AFCON group stage and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Super Eagles will be hoping for a stronger start in the AFCON qualifiers compared to their World Cup qualifiers. The six-game qualifying campaign is spread across September, October, and November FIFA windows, with two matches played in each window.
