Paul Onuachu set to become EPL’s tallest player as Genk accept €21m Southampton bid

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu is on the verge of joining Southampton from Genk after the Belgian side accepted a €21m bid from the English Premier League side.

According to the The Athletic, Southampton – who had a bid for Onuachu rejected by Genk last week – are set to make the Nigerian their fourth signing in the January transfer window.

James Bree, Mislav Orsic and Carlos Alcaraz all signed for the Saints this January.

Onuachu, who joined Genk from FC Midtjylland in 2019, has been in fine form for Genk in the Jupiler Pro League this season.

The six-foot-seven-inch striker has scored 17 goals in 22 games in all competitions.

His 16 goals in 19 league games means he is the top scorer in the league this season.

He would also become the Premier League’s tallest player, ahead of Newcastle United’s Dan Burn.

If the deal is confirmed, Onuachu will become the second Super Eagles player at Southampton, joining Joe Aribo who signed for the Saints in the summer.
