Nigeria’s D’Tigress have been drawn to face defending champions the United States of America in the quarter-final of the women’s basketball event at the ongoing Olympics.
D’Tigress have had a fairytale run at the Olympics defeating third-ranked Australia in their opening and fifth-ranked Canada in their final Group B game to become the first African team, both male and female to reach the quarter-finals stage of the basketball event at the Olympics.
The draw was conducted on Sunday night after the final game between France and Australia. Nigeria finished third in Group B behind France and Australia and as a result, was fated to play against a side that finished top of either Group A or C.
The USA team has won all three of their group games against Japan, Belgium, and Germany with a minimum margin of 13 points. However, D’Tigress would be determined to cause an upset and become the first African team to defeat the USA at a major tournament.
In other quarter-final games, Spain will face Belgium, Germany will face off against hosts France and Australia will play against Serbia.
