Nigeria’s Ezekiel Nathaniel has qualified for the semi-final of the 400m hurdles event at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics.
Nathaniel finished second in his heat in a time of 48.38s behind Jamaica’s Roshawn Clark, who won in 48.17s. Homeboy Wilfred Happio was the third automatic qualifier, making the semi-final in a time of 48.42s.
The heat had the highest number of non-automatic qualifiers, with Italy’s Alessandro Sibilio, Kenya’s Wiseman Mukhobe and Netherland’s Nick Smidt making the semi-final stage, placing fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
In other track and field event today, Chidi Okezie failed to make it out of the 400m repechage, placing fifth in 45.92s. In the women’s 400m event, both Ella Onojuvwevwo and Esther Joseph failed to qualify for the semi-final.
Onojuvwevwo was sixth in her own heat in 51.65s, while Joseph was disqualified for lane infringement. Onojuvwevwo will be back for the repechage tomorrow for a place in the semi-final.
