Greek giants PAOK Thessaloniki have announced the signing of Super Eagles captain William Troost-EKong on a three-year deal from English Championship side, Watford FC for an undisclosed fee.
The Greek side announced the signing of the former Tottenham and Trabzonspor player o the official website and social media platforms while confirming he will wear the No. 15 jersey.
The center-back who spent the latter half of last season at Italian Serie A side Salernitana will be hoping to make a mark with the Greek club both o the domestic scene and in Europe.
Reacting to the move, the 29-year-old said he is delighted and proud the wear the black and white colours of PAOK, “Proud to wear these colors. Let’s go PAOKARA! We’re going to have a great day at the end of the week!” Ekong wrote on Instagram.
Watford also confirmed the departure of the Nigeria international who spent three seasons at the club on the official website and social media platforms, “Watford FC confirms the permanent transfer of William Troost-Ekong to Greek top-flight side PAOK for an undisclosed fee.
“The 29-year-old made 68 appearances during a three-year spell with the Hornets, having arrived in September 2020.
“During his debut season, the center-half was a key part of the record-breaking defensive unit that conceded only 30 goals in 2020/21 – the joint fewest in Championship history and Watford’s lowest-ever tally – as promotion was secured.
“Having made the step up to the Premier League, the Nigerian international featured 17 times in the top flight during 2021/22, taking the captain’s armband on several occasions.
“We would like to thank William for his efforts while at Watford FC and wish him all the best for the future.”
