Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has undergone a successful operation as he begins his recovery from an arm injury sustained during Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash against Liverpool.

The Nigerian International was unable to continue the second leg encounter and had to be substituted at half time. Liverpool went on to secure a dominant 4-0 victory on the night, sealing a 4-1 aggregate win to eliminate the Turkish champions from the competition.

In an official statement released on Monday afternoon, Galatasaray provided an update on the condition of the 27-year-old.

”In the away match we played against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, our player Victor Osimhen, who was injured and unable to continue the game, underwent a successful operation today at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital performed by our club doctor Op. Dr. Yener İnce,” the statement read.

“We extend our wishes for a speedy recovery to our footballer and hope for his return to the field at the earliest.”

Although no official date has been set for his comeback, reports indicate that Osimhen could be sidelined for approximately six weeks, potentially returning to action in May.

Osimhen’s absence could pose a challenge for Galatasaray as they push for domestic success. The Istanbul giants currently lead the Turkish Super Lig standings with 64 points, maintaining a four-point cushion over second-placed Fenerbahçe and third-placed Trabzonspor.

Galatasaray also remain in contention for the Turkish Cup, where they are set to face Gençlerbirliği in the quarter-finals. The club will be hoping that their leading striker will return in time to play a role in the closing stages of the season.
