Nigeria international, Victor Osimhen, scored the winner for Napoli as they returned to the top of the Italian Serie A table with a hard fought 3-2 victory over Bologna at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Sunday.
The striker who is being eased back to competitive action by manager Luciano Spalletti came on for Giacomo Raspadori in the 46th minute to boost Napoli’s attack.
Joshua Zirkzee gave Bologna the lead in the 41st minute but Napoli defender Juan Jesus scored the equaliser in the 45th minute as both teams went into the half time break on a 1-1 draw. Hirving Lozano made it 2-1 in the 49th minute but the lead only lasted two minutes as Gambian midfielder, Musa Barrow, made it 2-2.
Osimhen scored the winner in the 69th minute putting the ball past Lukasz Skorupski after receiving a well weighted pass from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
The goal is the second for Osimhen since returning from an injury having scored against Ajax in the Champions League during the week. He has found the back of the next four times in eight appearances across all competitions.
Reacting after the victory, an excited Osimhen says he’s delighted with his goal and hopes they can keep the momentum.
“Always important to score here, in this stadium, the atmosphere is crazy. I’m happy with the performance and the goal, now we have to push to continue this moment.
“Bologna is an excellent team. Spalletti at the end of the first half gave us the right energy to go out and to win the game, these three points are very important.”
The win sees Napoli leapfrog Atalanta who on Saturday went top of the table after a 2-1 win over Sassuolo.
