Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored his second goal of the season to help Galatasaray secure a thrilling 3-1 victory over Rizespor in their Turkish Super Lig clash on Sunday, Bold Sports reports.

The defending champions came into the encounter full of confidence after winning their opening three matches without conceding, while Rizespor had endured a poor start, collecting just one point and failing to score in their first two outings.

Galatasaray broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when Gabriel Sara’s well-delivered corner found Davinson Sánchez, who rose highest to nod the ball into the back of the net. Despite controlling possession, the hosts were unable to extend their lead before halftime.

Galatasaray maintained their attacking intent after the restart and doubled their advantage in the 65th minute, with Abdülkerim Bardakcı delivering a pinpoint cross into the box for Osimhen to head home and make it 2-0.

Rizespor, however, responded swiftly as Dal Varesanovic pulled one back shortly after Osimhen’s strike to revive the visitors’ hopes. Despite the late pressure, Galatasaray’s defense held firm and Icardi scored in the dying minutes to seal the 3-1 win and secure the team’s fourth consecutive victory of the season.

The result keeps Galatasaray at the top of the Super Lig table with a perfect 12 points from four games, while Rizespor remain winless in 15th place, with just one point and a single goal scored.

Galatasaray will aim to extend their winning streak when they face Eyüpsor on Sunday, September 14, while Rizespor will be targeting their first victory of the campaign when they host Gençlerbirliği on the same day.

For Osimhen, focus now shifts to international duty as he links up with the Super Eagles ahead of their crucial World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa, where Nigeria will seek back-to-back wins to strengthen their World Cup qualification hopes.
