…Osayi-Samuel admits Morocco’s strength ahead of semis

Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel has expressed confidence that Nigeria can overcome hosts Morocco in Wednesday’s semi-final clash at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and secure a place in the final.

Nigeria produced a commanding performance in their 2–0 quarter-final victory over Algeria on Saturday and will look to carry that momentum into the last-four encounter against the tournament hosts, who have also impressed throughout the competition.

Morocco have been among the standout teams at AFCON 2025, recording four wins and one draw so far. The Atlas Lions most recently eliminated Cameroon with a convincing quarter-final win and will have the backing of millions of passionate home supporters.

Osayi-Samuel believes Nigeria’s dominant display against Algeria will have put Morocco on alert ahead of the highly anticipated semi-final showdown.

“It was a statement win (against Algeria) – a big statement win – and I think Morocco will be thinking twice against us,” Osayi-Samuel told reporters, per Ademola Victor TV. “They have their strengths too. They have a player who has been scoring in every game.”

Despite facing one of the tournament’s strongest sides and the challenge of a hostile atmosphere, the Birmingham City defender remains confident the Super Eagles can rise to the occasion and book a place in the final.

“They have great players as well, but we’ll keep focusing on ourselves, keep believing in ourselves, and keep playing the way we’ve been playing. I’m sure we can beat Morocco,” he added.

Morocco boasts a star-studded squad that includes reigning African Footballer of the Year Achraf Hakimi, AFCON 2025 top scorer Brahim Díaz, and Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui, among others.
