Defending champions Remo Stars boosted their survival hopes with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Shooting Stars in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter at Ikenne on Sunday, Bold Sports reports.
The Sky Blue Stars came into the clash eager to extend their three-match unbeaten run and climb out of the relegation zone, while Shooting Stars were targeting a win to close the gap on league leaders Enugu Rangers.
After a cagey first half in which both sides failed to convert their chances, the breakthrough arrived shortly after the restart. Samuel Anakwe struck in the 49th minute, calmly finding the back of the net to hand the hosts a crucial lead.
Shooting Stars thought they had drawn level on two occasions, but their celebrations were cut short by offside calls. The visitors continued to press for an equaliser, but Remo Stars held firm defensively to preserve their advantage until the final whistle.

The victory lifts Remo Stars to 17th on the table with 40 points as they continue their battle to avoid relegation. They will look to build on this momentum when they face Barau FC in their next fixture on Sunday, April 12.
For Shooting Stars, it was a missed opportunity to close the gap on the teams above them. They remain fifth on 50 points and will aim to bounce back against Kwara United in their next outing also on Sunday.
Elsewhere, Rivers United failed to capitalise on the chance to go top, suffering a 2-0 defeat to Warri Wolves. League leaders Enugu Rangers were also held to a goalless draw by Barau, leaving the title race finely poised.
