Napoli thrash Sassuolo 6-1, Osimhen bags first hat-trick of the season

Victor Osimhen scored his first hat-trick of the season while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia grabbed a brace as a rampant Napoli came from behind to thrash Sassuolo 6-1 away from home in an Italian Serie A game.

The defending champions have failed to live up to expectations this season failing to rekindle the form that saw them take Italy by storm to win their first Serie A title in 33 years last season.

Napoli went into the game needing a win to rekindle their season and give new manager Francesco Calzona his first win after two draws but things started on the wrong note after going behind after just 17 minutes from a Uroš Račić goal.

Despite the early setback, the champions quickly reasserted their dominance, grabbing three goals in 12 minutes to turn the game around. Amir Rrahmani scored the equalizer in the 29th minute followed by two quick goals from star man Victor Osimhen in the 31st and 41st minute.

The Nigeria international completed his hat-trick two minutes after the restart while Kvaratskhelia was on target in the 51st minute, assisted by Osimhen, and the 75th minute to give the champions a confidence-boosting victory away from home.

Despite the huge victory, the champions are still ninth on the log but they are now eight points off the top four. Sassuolo however, dropped into the relegation zone.

The goals take Osimhen’s tally to 11 in 15 Serie A games and 18 goals in 26 games across all competitions.
