Maduka Okoye secured his first clean sheet of the season as Udinese edged Atalanta 1–0 in a Serie A encounter on Saturday, bringing an end to Atalanta’s unbeaten run.

Okoye, who recently returned from a two-month suspension over alleged involvement in a betting scandal, had conceded in each of his previous three matches against Cremonese, Lecce, and Juventus.

Nicolo Zaniolo scored the decisive goal in the 40th minute, handing Udinese their fourth win of the campaign and lifting them to eighth place on the log, while Atalanta dropped to 10th.

It was a quiet afternoon for Okoye, who was largely untroubled throughout the game as Atalanta managed five shots, none of which were on target. Udinese, on the other hand, recorded five shots on target from 11 attempts.

Okoye’s compatriot, Ademola Lookman, featured for Atalanta but was unable to trouble his Super Eagles teammate in goal.

Up next for Udinese is a trip to the capital to face AS Roma on November 9 before the international break.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle will be pleased with Okoye’s form, which adds healthy competition for the team’s No. 1 spot currently occupied by Stanley Nwabali, who has faced criticism in recent weeks for some costly errors.
