Akor Adams earned special praise from Luis García Plaza after Sevilla’s dramatic 2-1 comeback win against RCD Espanyol in La Liga on Saturday.
The Nigerian striker came off the bench to score a stoppage-time winner at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, helping Sevilla move further away from the relegation zone with only three league matches remaining this season.
Adams has now registered nine goals and three assists in 29 La Liga appearances this campaign. He also played a decisive role in Sevilla’s recent resurgence, with the club securing consecutive league victories for the first time since October 2025.
Sevilla manager García Plaza admitted he celebrated the goal passionately as emotions overflowed after the late turnaround.

“I really celebrated Akor’s goal. I’ve only been here six games, but I really empathize with the team,” the Sevilla coach said in comments published on the club’s official website.
The coach also pointed to the squad’s togetherness during the closing moments of the contest.
“The bench came out to celebrate, and that’s very important. You can’t stop believing. It was a testament to that,” García Plaza added.
Espanyol had taken the lead in the second half through Tyrhys Dolan after Sevilla failed to clear their lines properly.
Sevilla responded strongly late in the game as pressure mounted on the visitors. The hosts eventually found an equaliser before Adams curled home the winning goal deep into stoppage time to complete the comeback.
The victory lifted Sevilla from 17th to 12th place in the standings with 40 points, moving them above Espanyol in the table.
With matches against Villarreal CF, Real Madrid CF and RC Celta de Vigo still to come, Sevilla are now close to securing their top-flight status for another season.
