Super-sub Akor Adams expressed his excitement after emerging as Sevilla’s hero, scoring a dramatic stoppage-time winner to secure a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Espanyol and significantly boost the club’s survival hopes.
Sevilla thought they had taken the lead just after halftime when Alexis Sánchez found the net in the 46th minute, but the effort was correctly ruled out for offside. Espanyol then struck first in the 56th minute to put the visitors under pressure.
Andrés Castrín restored hope for Sevilla with a crucial equaliser in the 82nd minute before the hosts completed the turnaround in spectacular fashion. Deep into stoppage time, Akor Adams curled a stunning effort from outside the box into the back of the net in the 91st minute, sparking wild celebrations among players and fans alike.
Speaking after the game, the Nigeria international says he is delighted with the three points which has put the team in a better place, the fans happy and the dressing room more lively.

“I’m very happy for the three points, for my teammates. We worked hard and we’re very happy with the three points. Sevilla is a very important club in La Liga and in the city,” Akor Adams said after the win.
“The manager reminds us of that every day. The fans’ support in the last two matches has been incredible, and the work of my teammates has been amazing too. 90 minutes running all over the pitch. These three points are very important for us, for the joy in the dressing room, in the city.”
Up next for Los Nervionenses is a visit to the Estadio de la Cerámica where they will face Villarreal who have already secured next season’s champions league spot and Adams insists they will approach the game as a winnable one.
“We’re focused on each match, on getting the three points. Now we’ll go to Villarreal and little by little we’ll take steps up the table, looking towards our goal. I feel Sevilla in my heart and I work every day for the club. This goal is very important to get the three points and make the fans happy.”

The victory marks Sevilla’s second consecutive win as they continue their fight to avoid relegation. The result moves them three points clear of the drop zone, with momentum firmly on their side ahead of a tough away clash against Villarreal on Wednesday.
Adams’ decisive strike takes his season tally to nine goals in 29 appearances, alongside three assists, cementing his place as Sevilla’s leading scorer this campaign. He now sits comfortably ahead of Djibril Sow, who has scored five times in 30 league matches.
Introduced in the 75th minute as a substitute for Rubén Vargas, Adams made an immediate impact with his match-winning contribution. Fellow Nigerian Chidera Ejuke also featured prominently, playing the full 90 minutes in a vital victory for Sevilla.
