Ademola Lookman grabbed his 12th goal of the 2022/23 Italian Serie A campaign in a 2-0 win over Sampdoria at the Gewiss Stadium on Saturday, cementing his place as one of the league’s top goal scorers.

 Defender, Joakim Mæhle, gave Atalanta the lead in the 42nd minute while Lookman scored a superb solo goal nutmegging Nicola Murru and dummying Bram Nuytinck before putting the ball past Emil Audero in the 58th minuteto make the scoreline 2-0 helping his team move from sixth to fourth on the log ahead of Lazio and AS Roma who both have a game in hand.

The goal takes Lookman’s tally to five in his last three games and according to respected football statistics record, the Nigerian has scored more league goals than any player in Europe’s top five league in 2023.

According to OptaPaolo, Lookman who has scored five league goals in 2023 leads strikers such as Victor Osimhen, Earling Haaland, Wissam Ben Yedder Lautaro Martinez who are all on four goals apiece. 

With 14 goals from 20 games in all competitions in his debut season in Italy, Lookman has already scored more goals than in the last four seasons with Everton, RB Leipzig, Fulham and Leicester City put together.
