Director-General, Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Lekan Fatodu, has assured that the state would continue to provide the enabling environment to help future stars emerge from table tennis.
Fatodu gave the assurance at a media conference held on Tuesday to herald in the 2024 WTT Contender Lagos.
The LSSC chief said: “We are very glad to welcome all table tennis players and officials to another milestone in the history of the state in promoting sporting excellence, as the World Table Tennis Contender unfolds in Lagos over the next five days.
“As a state, we are ever ready for this kind of showpiece event. Our homegrown and budding players like Muizz Adegoke and Abdulbasit Abdulfatai are warming up for this world event taking place right here in Lagos.”
Fatodu added: “Our indefatigable Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has demonstrated unwavering support for sporting infrastructure. As a state, we are leaving no stone unturned when it comes to sports development. We provide a strong support structure to our athletes, including exposing them to international championships like the WTT Contender.
“Lagos is a pacesetter in sports and infrastructure development. Hosting another world championship in the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria is not only putting the state on the world map but also creating an avenue for our future stars and budding talents to understudy current superstars as they battle for honours on our soil. This is Lagos and we are open to subsequent major tournaments.”
