Nigeria’s Mathew Kuti lost his final men’s singles group match at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games on Monday, falling 3–0 to Italy’s Francesco Trevisan, Bold sports reports.

Trevisan won 12–10, 11–2, 11–7, leaving Kuti with one victory and two defeats from his three preliminary matches.

The Nigerian entered the encounter seeking the win needed to reach the knockout stage after recovering from an opening defeat to beat Tunisia’s Youssef Aidli on Sunday.

Kuti came closest to taking a game in the opener against Trevisan, pushing the Italian beyond the regulation winning score before losing 12–10.

Trevisan then established a firmer advantage with an 11–2 victory in the second game. He completed the straight-games win by taking the third 11–7.

The result ended Kuti’s attempt to build on his four-game victory over Aidli, which had kept his qualification hopes alive.

Against the Tunisian, Kuti won the first two games 11–8, 11–8, dropped the third 9–11 and recovered to take the fourth 11–7.

That response followed a difficult opening encounter against Hong Kong’s Ki Ho Li, who defeated him 11–4, 11–4, 11–3.

Li completed his group programme unbeaten by overcoming Aidli on Monday, while Trevisan finished with two victories and one defeat. Kuti’s sole win came against Aidli.

The Nigerian had also competed alongside Favour Ojo in the mixed doubles, where they lost 3–1 to Thailand’s Thitaphat Preechayan and Kulapassr Vijitviriyagul in the round of 16.

Kuti’s victory over Aidli therefore remains the highlight of his singles preliminary campaign, with Trevisan proving too strong in their decisive meeting.
