Harry Kane became England’s all-time leading World Cup scorer after netting his 11th goal at the tournament in the Three Lions’ 2-0 victory over Panama in their final Group L match at New York New Jersey Stadium on Saturday.

The Bayern Munich striker sealed the win with England’s second goal after Jude Bellingham had broken the deadlock, helping Thomas Tuchel’s side finish top of Group L with a comfortable victory.

England started brightly and nearly took the lead within the opening minutes, but Marcus Rashford’s effort was well saved by Orlando Mosquera. Bukayo Saka also tested the Panama goalkeeper shortly afterwards, though his strike was comfortably gathered.

The Three Lions continued to dominate possession and create chances in search of the opening goal. Rashford came close again in the 38th minute when he met Elliot Anderson’s cross, but the Barcelona forward failed to keep his header on target.

Rashford remained England’s biggest attacking threat on the left flank and was inches away from opening the scoring just before the break, only to see his effort drift narrowly wide.

England’s persistence was finally rewarded in the 62nd minute when Jude Bellingham volleyed home from Bukayo Saka’s well-delivered corner to give Tuchel’s men a deserved lead.

Just five minutes later, England doubled their advantage as Bellingham turned provider. The Real Madrid midfielder collected Rashford’s long pass before feeding captain Kane, who powered home a superb header.

The goal was Kane’s 11th at the FIFA World Cup, moving him ahead of Gary Lineker as England’s highest-ever scorer in the history of the tournament.

Panama attempted to respond in the closing stages, but England comfortably held on for the win as goals from Bellingham and Kane secured top spot in Group L and booked their place in the round of 32.
