Head coach of Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress, Rena Wakama, has named guard Ezinne Kalu, star forward Amy Okonkwo, and 10 others in D’Tigress’ final 12-woman roster for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The final roster also consists of Promise Amukamara, Elizabeth Balogun, Tomi Taiwo, Ifunaya Okoro, Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah, Murjanatu Musa, Lauren Ebo, Blessing Ejiofor, Nicole Enabosi, and Adebola Adeyeye.
D’Tigress, who are looking to become the first African team to make it out of the group phase of the Olympics, will face women’s basketball powerhouse Australia in the opening game of the competition. The Opals will be aiming for a podium finish in Paris and will also be seeking a strong start.
The African champions then face hosts France on August 1st before lining up against another global force, Canada, on August 4th.
The team has not had the best exhibition games, losing to Germany and Serbia, but they are hoping that mistakes made will have been corrected before the competition proper begins.
