Joe Aribo was on the score sheet for Southampton in the English Premier League but it was not enough as they suffered a 2-1 loss to an Alex Iwobi inspired Everton at St Mary’s on Saturday.
Aribo opened the scoring in the 49th minute, firing past Jordan Pickford after receiving a pass from Che Adams from outside the box. The goal lasted just three minutes as Conor Coady tapped in the equaliser in the 52nd minute.
Two minutes later, Iwobi provided the assist for Dwight McNeil who fired home the winner in the 54th minute of the game as the Toffees earned their second win of the season. Iwobi has provided the two assists for Everton’s winning goals this season.
The assist was Iwobi’s third of the season in eight league games, one more than he managed in 28 games in the 2021/22 season. For Aribo, the goal is his second of the season for Southampton since joining the Premier League club in the summer.
Both players featured for the entire duration of the game. Iwobi have played every minute of Everton’s campaign this season.
