Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo has become a free agent following the expiration of his contract with EFL Championship side Southampton FC.

The Saints officially confirmed Aribo’s departure, bringing an end to his four-year spell at St Mary’s Stadium. The Nigeria international spent the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan at Leicester City but managed only six appearances for the Foxes, who suffered relegation at the end of the campaign.

During his time with Southampton, the 29-year-old made 111 appearances across all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing one assist.

Aribo is among several players released by Southampton this summer, with Oriol Romeu, Will Smallbone, Ross Stewart, Alex McCarthy, Jamie Jones, Charlie Taylor, and Elias Jelert, whose loan spell has ended, also departing the club.

With his Southampton chapter now closed, Aribo is expected to attract interest from a number of EFL Championship clubs. However, opportunities outside England are also likely to emerge as he considers the next step in his career.
