Super Falcons have suffered a major setback on the eve of their crucial international friendly against France on Saturday after defender Oluwatosin Demehin was ruled out due to injury.
The Galatasaray player was initially named in the 20-player squad but will now miss the match billed to be held at the 18,000-capacity Stade Raymond Kopa in Angers.
Demehin’s absence leaves interim coach Justin Madugu with just five defensive options: Osinachi Ohale, Rofiat Imuran, Michelle Alozie, Sikiratu Isah, and Ashleigh Plumptre, who recently returned from a long-term injury.
The Super Falcons will need to adapt their defensive strategy to account for Demehin’s absence as they face a tough test against the French team. The two nations last met at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where France emerged victorious with a 1-0 win.
Nigerian fans in France will be joined by the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, as well as the Chairman of the NFF Women’s Football Committee, Ms Aisha Falode, and the General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi.
The team will have their first training at the match venue this evening.
