Ademola Lookman is a major doubt for Nigeria’s upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Rwanda on Monday, November 18, after picking up a minor injury.
The Atalanta forward who has been a major player for the Eagles missed the team’s training on Saturday due to the injury picked.
The forward, who started in Nigeria’s recent 1-1 draw against Benin Republic before being substituted in the 91st minute, has been in fine form this year. He has scored six goals for the national team in 2024 and boasts an impressive club record with eight goals and five assists in 14 matches across all competitions.
While Lookman’s absence may raise concerns, it also provides an opportunity for other players to make their mark in front of the Uyo crowd at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
The Super Eagles, already qualified for AFCON 2025 with 11 points from five games, will use the match as a chance to fine-tune their squad.
For Rwanda, however, the stakes are much higher, as they face a must-win scenario to keep their AFCON hopes alive.
