Iheanacho shortlisted for EPL Player of The Month award

Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho has been shortlisted for the EA Sports February Premier League Player of the Month award after his impressive performance for the Foxes in the month.

The Nigerian would slug it out with in-form Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, Fulham goalkeeper, Bernd Leno, Tottenham Hotspur defender, Emerson Royal, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Fulham’s Israeli midfielder, Manor Solomon.

Iheanacho’s performance was instrumental in Leicester City winning two out of four league games played in the month. The Nigeria international had five goals contribution in February for the Foxes. He scored two goals and provided three assists.

Having won the award in March 2021, Iheanacho will be hoping to lay hands on the prestigious individual performance gong once again. However, he faces stiff competition from United’s Marcus Rashford who had been in superb form in February scoring five goals in the month including a brace against Iheanacho’s Leicester in a 3-0 win.

Fulham’s Solomon will also be a huge competition having scored three goals in four appearances for the Cottagers in February. He’s been on target for the London club in their last three consecutive games.

Only Jay Jay Okocha, Osaze Odemwingie, Odion Ighalo and Iheanacho are the only Nigerian players to have won the award. Odemwingie is the only Nigerian to have claimed the award more than one time. He won the award thrice in September 2010, April 2011 and February 2012.
