Victor Osimhen continued his red-hot form as he scored his first-ever club career hat-trick to help Napoli take their unbeaten run in the Serie A to 13 games with a 4-0 thrashing of Sassuolo at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Saturday.
Osimhen scored the opener with the first attack of the game in the 4th minute after being assisted by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
The Georgian teed-up the Nigerian for the second of the game in the 19th minute before getting a goal of his own in the 36th minute.
Osimhen ensured that he scored his first Napoli hat-trick after receiving a loose ball to cleverly chip the goalkeeper in the 77th minute to take home the match ball and the Man of The Match award.
It is the 23-year-old’s first club-career hat-trick in 161 matches across Europe – Germany, Belgium, France and Italy.
Despite his injury concerns this season, Osimhen who was one of the most sought after strikers in Europe over the summer has found the back of the net eight times in nine appearances in all competitions this season.
The Nigeria international has scored in all games he’s featured in since returning from a Biceps femoris muscle injury that saw him miss four games in the Serie A and two in the champions league.
Reacting to his first Napoli hat-trick, Osimhen who has hailed manager Luciano Spalletti for the confidence imposed on him says he’s excited with the feat and hopes to keep the momentum.
“Congratulations to the team, I am happy to contribute to this win. Of course it is good to have as many goals as this, I want to keep the momentum going,” Osimhen told DAZN.
“This season the coach has given me as much confidence as I can get. I am really happy to rely on him giving me the maximum confidence. I have just returned from five weeks out, which is not easy, and it is important to get really integrated with the team.”
