Granada have strengthened their attacking options after completing the signing of Nigerian striker Chinaza Marvellous Onouha Okonyia, following his outstanding goalscoring exploits with UP Plasencia, Boldsports reports.
The Spanish club confirmed the arrival of the 2005-born forward, who will initially join Recreativo Granada as he begins the next chapter of his career.
Okonyia arrives in Spain’s Granada setup after enjoying a remarkable season with UP Plasencia. The young striker played a decisive role in the club’s promotion-winning campaign from the Primera Extremeña to the Tercera RFEF. He finished the season with 34 goals in all competitions, including 23 league goals in 23 appearances, seven in the Copa Extremadura and four more across two promotion playoff matches. His prolific form earned him the league’s top scorer award while helping his team secure promotion.
Granada’s reserve side struggled for goals during the previous campaign, making the signing of the Nigerian forward a significant boost ahead of the new season. His consistency in front of goal and ability to deliver in important matches convinced the club to invest in one of the most promising young Nigerian attackers in Spain.
The club will hope Okonyia’s finishing ability can strengthen the squad as Recreativo Granada aims to improve its league position and compete for promotion.
Granada announced the deal in an official statement:

”Granada Football Club and striker Chinaza have reached an agreement for his incorporation into Club Recreativo Granada.
Chinaza Marvellous Onouha Okonyia (Nigeria, 2005) played last season for UP Plasencia, helping them achieve promotion as the top team from the Primera Extremeña to the Tercera RFEF. He was a key player for the Cáceres-based side, becoming the league’s top scorer with 23 goals in 23 matches, an average of one goal per game. He also scored four goals in the two playoff matches for promotion and another seven in the Copa Extremadura, a competition won by Plasencia.
The Club welcomes Chinaza and wishes him the best of luck in the challenges that lie ahead for us together.”
The move offers Okonyia an opportunity to continue his development within Granada’s system after a season that established him as one of the most prolific Nigerian forwards in Spanish regional football. His performances will now be closely watched as he looks to transfer his goalscoring form to Recreativo Granada.
