Struggling French Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyon are set to sign Nigerian striker Gift Orban from KAA Gent for €13m.
The Nigerian would sign a deal to keep him at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais until 2028. His first assignment would be to help the club avoid relegation as they currently sit 16th on the table and in the relegation zone.
Lyon have struggled for form and consistency this season earning just four wins in 18 games. They have lost 10 times.
Orban had been on the radar of some of Europe’s top clubs in the summer after his breakthrough season with the Belgian side where he scored 20 goals in 22 appearances in all competitions. Although he has not been able to replicate the feat, he has still managed to grab 12 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions this season.

Lyon owner John Textor had personally sanctioned the move for the Nigerian. Gent who over the summer had turned down a €25m offer from clubs in France and England decided to cash in on the striker as his value may drop lower in the summer.
Italian football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the story via microblogging platform X formerly Twitter, “Gift Orban to Olympique Lyon, here we go! Deal done for €13m fee to Gent. Deal strongly wanted by John Textor, one more top signing after Malick Fofana. Orban will sign until June 2028.”
