Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea in their opening game of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, commonly known as the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpé.
Equatorial Guinea took the lead against the run of play in the 36th minute through Ivan Salvador. The lead only lasted two minutes as the Super Eagles grabbed the equalizer in the 38th minute through Africa’s Football of The Year, Victor Osimhen.
Nigeria failed to take the bulk of their second-half chances with players such as Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Ola Aina failing to find the back of the net.
Nigeria had a total of 17 shots with six being on target while Equatorial Guinea had six attempts but scored with their only effort on goal. The Super Eagles will be hoping to bounce back in their second game of the competition – but would have hosts Ivory Coast to contend with.
