With nine goals in seven league games and five goals in four UEFA Europa Conference League appearances, 20-year-old Nigerian striker Gift Orban can’t seem to stop scoring since joining KAA Gent during the January transfer window.
Orban was on target for the Belgian side once again scoring a brace as Gent thrashed RFC Seraing in the Jupiler Pro League on Saturday. The brace takes his tally to nine in the league since joining the side from Norwegian professional football side Stabæk for €3.3m.
The Nigerian has continued to break records because since making his Jupiler Pro League debut on 11 February 2023, Orban scored more goals than any other player in the Top 10 European leagues (9), a form he’ll be hoping to continue.
Aside from the goals, Orban also assisted Hugo Cuypers for Gent’s third goal. It was his second assist of the season.
According to respected football statistics website Transfermarkt, Orban’s value has risen astronomically from €1m in December 2022 to €9m as of March 22, 2023, and could go higher as the season progresses.
Gent’s manager, says he’s delighted with the result, “I am very proud of the boys after I saw the field at the end. It was completely broken. If they bring that, I can only be satisfied.”
