Super Eagles defender Kingsley Ehizibue scored his first goal of the season and his first for Genoa as the hosts secured a shock 2-0 victory over Juventus at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Wednesday night.

Genoa, who started the game 16th on the Serie A table, were looking to record their second consecutive win after picking up maximum points against bottom-placed Venezia over the weekend.

Ehizibue, who returned to the starting line-up after recovering from muscle fatigue that had ruled him out of Genoa’s previous two games, opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Tommaso Baldanzi, who provided the assist for the Nigerian’s goal, doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 28th minute.

Despite dominating possession and registering more shots on target, Juventus could not find a way back into the game as they suffered their third defeat of the season.

The victory marked Genoa’s third win of the campaign and their first back-to-back victories of the season, providing a significant boost to their survival ambitions.

Genoa goalkeeper Justin Bijlow also played a crucial role in the victory, producing three impressive saves to deny the visitors and preserve his side’s clean sheet.

The appearance was Ehizibue’s 120th in Serie A and his fifth for Genoa since joining from Udinese in the summer. The defender made 115 appearances in the Italian top flight during his time at Udinese and has now scored five goals in the competition.
