Genoa move a dream come true, says David Ankeye

21-year-old striker David Ankeye isn’t just joining Genoa – he’s realizing a lifelong dream. Born and raised on the streets of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, Ankeye’s journey from asphalt pitches to Serie A stardom is the stuff of fairytales.

“Growing up, every kid dreams of playing in the big leagues,” Ankeye declared after signing his permanent deal with the Italian club. “This move to Genoa is a dream come true. I’m ecstatic and proud to be joining such a historic club, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Genoa secured Ankeye’s services for €2.5 million from Moldovan giants Sheriff Tiraspol, where he impressed with eight goals in 25 games across all competitions, including appearances in the Champions League qualifiers and Europa League.

“David Ankeye is a new Genoa player. The Nigerian striker, born in Port-Harcourt on 05/22/2002, arrives from Sheriff Tiraspol permanently. He has 10 appearances and 3 goals in the Europa League and 2 appearances in the Champions League qualifiers. Welcome to Genoa, David!” Genoa wrote while announcing the Nigerian.

Ankeye’s arrival injects fresh hope into the Genoese faithful. His pace, power, and clinical finishing promise to bolster Genoa’s attack as they aim to climb the Serie A table.

He’ll be eager to make an immediate impact in his debut match against Empoli this Saturday, proving that the streets of Port Harcourt can indeed lead to the glittering stages of European football.
