Promise Amukamara, 14 others listed for D’Tigress Olympics Qualifying Tournament

Coach Rena Wakama and the Nigeria Basketball Federation have named Promise Amukamara and 14 others in a 15-man roster for the country’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress ahead of their FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Belgium.

The players called up for the tournament scheduled to tip off from February 8th to 11th February 2024, in Antwerp, Belgium include a recall for point guard, Promise Amukamara (Dynamo Kyiv, Russia) who missed the country’s Afrobasket win due to injury.  Ejiofor Blessing (Nice, France), Ebo Lauren (Turgutly, Turkey), Kunayi-Akpanah Pallas (Campobasso, Italy), and Akaraiwe Nkem (Customs, Nigeria).

Others are; Musa Murjarnatu (Celta Zorka, Spain), Enabosi Nicole (Toulouse, France), Adeyeye Adebola (Cor Trinth Basket, France), Okonkwi Amy (St Amand, France), Balogun Elizabeth (Bembibre, Spain), Donanu Regina (MFM Nigeria), Taiwo Oluwatomi Yemisi (Ex Tou, USA), Sarah Ogoke (Women’s United, USA), Okoro Ifunnaya (Tintastoll, Iceland), Abiola Alimat Olatoyosi (Ex Arkansas, USA).

D’Tigress are in Group A alongside the United States, Senegal, and Belgium. The top three teams in the group qualify for the Olympics in Paris. Nigeria’s first game comes up against Senegal on February 8. They’ll face the United States on February 9 while their last game comes against hosts Belgium on February 11. 

A total of 16 teams will participate in one of four global FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments taking place from 8 to 11 February 2024, 12 of them, including the host (France*) and the Winner of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 (USA), will qualify to the Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament.

D’Tigress qualified automatically for the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament as winners of the 2023 Women’s Afrobasket in Rwanda.
