Nigeria’s Flamingos maintained their perfect start to the 2026 WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup with a 2-0 win over Burkina Faso on Monday. The victory came at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, Bold Sports reports.
The result extends Nigeria’s winning run to three matches. The Flamingos opened with a 5-0 victory over Niger Republic. They then defeated Ghana 4-2 in their second game.
The Flamingos controlled much of the opening period. However, they could not turn their possession into a goal.
Burkina Faso defended with discipline throughout the first half. Nigeria continued to press high and create openings. The Burkinabe defence still held firm.
Neither side found the breakthrough before the interval. Nigeria therefore had to increase the pressure after the restart.
The Flamingos pushed Burkina Faso deeper into their own half. They also forced several set-piece opportunities as they searched for the opening goal.
Nigeria finally found a way through in the 82nd minute. Mary Dunstan finished well to put the Flamingos ahead.
The goal gave Nigeria the advantage they had pursued for most of the match. Burkina Faso then had to chase an equaliser.
That created more space for Nigeria in the closing stages. The Flamingos eventually used it to secure the points.
Oluwakemi Adegbuyi struck in added time. Her late effort completed the 2-0 victory and ended Burkina Faso’s hopes of a comeback.
Adegbuyi has also been a key attacking figure for Nigeria in recent months.
The victory leaves Nigeria top of the WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup standings. The Flamingos now have nine points from three matches.
Their campaign has also produced 11 goals across those three victories. They scored five against Niger and four against Ghana before adding two against Burkina Faso.
Nigeria will now prepare for their next match against hosts Côte d’Ivoire. The Flamingos will face the Ivorians on September 24 before completing their league campaign against Togo on September 27.
The tournament also serves as important preparation for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco. Nigeria have already secured their place at the global tournament.
