Nigerian football fans have continued to shower praises on Victor Osimhen following his five-star display in the Super Eagles’ 4–0 thrashing of Benin Republic in their final Group C match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The 26-year-old striker bagged a brilliant hat-trick, sealing Nigeria’s place as Group C runners-up and securing enough points and goals to qualify for the World Cup playoffs.
Heading into the game, the Super Eagles knew that only a convincing victory would give them a chance to top the group or, at least, make the playoffs, and Osimhen rose to the occasion. The Galatasaray forward struck in the 3rd, 37th, and 51st minutes, while Frank Onyeka added a fourth goal in stoppage time to complete the rout.
Fans flooded social media with admiration and gratitude, calling on critics who had previously written off the Galartasaray star to tender apologies.

Although often compared with Europe’s elite forwards such as Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyökeres, and Erling Haaland, some fans believe Osimhen still doesn’t get the recognition he deserves at home.
@deeforsupadave summed it up perfectly: “Just so we’re clear, he is not the type of player to disrespect. He is to us what Messi is to Argentina and Ronaldo is to Portugal.”
