Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team the Super Falcons have moved up two spots to sit in the 40th position of the latest FIFA women’s ranking released today.
The Falcons were placed No. 42 in the ranking released in March but friendly wins over Haiti and New Zealand has helped in FIFA Women’s increased the country’s accumulated 1,537.65 in March to 1,540.96 in June.
Nigeria’s ranking could move higher on the log if they perform well at the forthcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup scheduled to take place in Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20, 2023. The Falcons have been placed in Group B where they’ll face off against co-hosts Australia, Canada and the Republic of Ireland.
The Falcons are still No. 1 in Africa followed by South Africa (54), Cameroon (56), Ghana (58) while Ivory Coast (66) completes the top 5 female football national teams on the continent.
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking will be published on August 25 after the conclusion of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
