FA Cup: Maduka Okoye concedes twice in first Watford start

Maduka Okoye conceded twice in his first competitive start for Watford in their 2-0 loss to Reading in the third round of the English FA Cup on Saturday at the Madejski Stadium.

Okoye who joined the club from Sparta Rotterdam has played second fiddle to Joe Lumley who is on loan from Middlesbrough and is yet to make a single start in the English championship.

Reading took the lead in the 45th minute through their U-21 star Kelvin Abrefa before Shane Long ensured that there was no comeback in the books for the visitors making it 2-0 in the 93rd minute.

Super Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong, was also on the receiving end of the defeat. He was in action for the entire duration of the game but could do nothing about the goals.

Another player of Nigerian descent, Tobi Adeyemo, made his senior Watford appearance in the game.

The 17-year-old attacker replaced Joseph Hungbo in the 75th minute of the encounter. He had previously played in the club’s U-18s where he’s scored once in four appearances.
