Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen was greeted like royalty by thousands of Galatasaray fans as he arrived in Istanbul to complete his season-long loan move from Napoli.
Despite a failed transfer to the Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli, Osimhen’s arrival in Turkey was met with immense enthusiasm.
Galatasaray supporters, known for their passionate following, waited until 3 AM local time at the airport to welcome their new signing. Videos circulated online showing fans lining up, driving through the city with flares, and celebrating the arrival of the reigning African Footballer of the Year.

Osimhen, who had expressed a desire to leave Napoli, found himself frozen out of the squad after failing to secure a move on deadline day. The Nigerian’s preference for a transfer to Chelsea was hindered by the English club’s reluctance to meet his wage demands.
The Turkish football fans’ fervent welcome for Osimhen came as a surprise to many, given his high profile and the unexpected nature of the transfer.
The Nigerian striker, widely regarded as one of the world’s top three forwards, finished seventh in the 2024 Ballon d’Or voting after leading Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years.
